Players teed off to perfect Johannesburg conditions early on Wednesday morning. Favourable temperatures reigned throughout the day and the field had little afternoon wind to contend with.

Rohwer managed to stay bogey-free for his first round as he took an one-shot lead by the close of play ahead of Lyle Rowe, who finished with a six-under-par 66.

Daniel van Tonder, Heinrich Bruiners, Oliver Bekker and Jayden Schaper all concluded with an opening-round 67 and occupy a share of third spot heading into Thursday’s second round at Glendower Golf Club.
