Matthew Southgate’s chances of earning his PGA Tour card for next season took a serious turn for the worse in the unluckiest of fashions.
The Englishman’s final round at the DAP Championship ended in bizarre circumstances after a leaf interrupted his ball after his putt on the 15th green at the Canterbury Golf Club in Ohio.
His birdie effort was struck by a leaf and changed direction.
He tapped in for par but was hit by two two-shot penalties – one for not replacing his ball after the incident and one for signing for an incorrect scorecard.
