Retief Goosen won his first of two Majors back at the 2001 US Open when he beat American Mark Brooks in a playoff on the Monday.
Goosen was in contention from day one but in the final round he, Brooks and Stewart Cink had go at the title.
Heading to the final hole, the South African had a one-shot lead over Brooks, who was already in the clubhouse.
Goosen needed two shots for victory as he laid up for a birdie opportunity, but instead blew the chance completely by making a three-putt to drop one shot, forcing a next-day playoff with Brooks.
The playoff, however, would be over 18 holes, meaning everything was on the line for both players to claim the title.
But, it was Goosen who kept his cool brilliantly under pressure as Brooks began to make bogeys.
He would claim a two-stroke victory at the end of the day with a round of even par for his maiden Major championship.
