Branden Grace’s solo position as the holder of the lowest score in Major history survived a big scare from Tommy Fleetwood on Sunday.

Fleetwood missed makeable chances at 16 and 17 before setting himself just over eight feet for birdie on the last which, in hindsight, would’ve seen him into a two-hole playoff with eventual winner Brooks Koepka.
The Englishman knew what was at stake as he saw his putt tail off the left of the cup leaving history as it was and his effort to come from behind just short.
‘I wanted 62,’ Fleetwood said post round.
‘I knew what score it was for. I actually hit the putt I wanted to but it is so steep that green it was a bit slower than I thought.’
Fleetwood joined Justin Thomas (2017), Vijay Singh (2003), Tom Weiskopf (1980), Jack Nicklaus (1980) and Johnny Miller (1973) as the only players to shoot 63 in the US Open.
No player has gone lower than South Africa’s Grace, who fired a third round 62 at The Open in 2017.
