Player was poised to complete the career grand slam but a double-bogey on the 16th hole of his final round, combined with a birdie from Kel Nagle, dissolved his three-stroke cushion and forced a Monday playoff.
Undeterred, Player outplayed Nagle the next day to capture the title.
