When they go in, you are in trouble
Branden Grace has a reputation as a player who can go low. On Saturday, his reputation was in jeopardy as he struggled through his first 10 holes. Then he sparked into life and roared home with five birdies in the last eight holes. Each putt was greeted by raucous cheers from the gallery which swelled to its peak just in time for his best putt of the day – a lengthy one on the 17th green that got him within one of Chris Paisley. The partisan crowd demand a home victor and in Grace, they have someone more than capable of getting the job done.
More than just a game
Watching amateur Kyle McClatchie nervously wait to shake idol Charl Schwartzel’s hand before his first shot of the day was an indication that despite McClatchie matching the 2011 Masters champion to that point, he was still very, very much the junior. Schwartzel then walked down the first chatting to the youngster and continued to do for the duration of the round. Today was a turning point in the youngster’s career and for an added bonus McClatchie shot 68. The kids are alright.
Let the games begin
Adrien Saddier drifted from contention but Paisley held firm. He did suffer a late bogey but he’s in the final pairing tomorrow with a one shot lead. Sunday presents arguably the biggest test of his career – he must hold off not only a charging field but also playing partner, Branden Grace. The South African is determined and has the home crowd on his side, tomorrow is set for a thrilling finale.
