    Higgo is on the move

For this week’s VOG Stellenbosch, you should consider going local …

The immensely popular Golf Champs is offering some great prizes for the Vodacom Origins of Golf Series events. In conjuction with the Sunshine Tour, Compleat Golfer handed out a spot at the Pro Am, one of the hottest tickets in local golf.

A fourball at the host course is up for grabs while the prizes on offer this week include a Puma eyewear-and-bag combination, a Halewood gin hamper and a pair of sexy socks. A Rupert & Rothschild wine hamper with the top five this week are all going into a draw for an entry into the final VOG event at Simola on 28 October.

That should be enough to grab your attention.

I know mine is grabbed. After placing 60th last week at Humewood, it’s time to up my game.

So, in order to sneak into the finals at Simola, I’m backing last week’s winnner, the defending champ and two locals.

Hardly out-of-the box thinking, I know, but fantasy games require a steady head and a lot of luck. So far only one other entrant has picked my four and I guess that could change by sharing my picks online well ahead of the first tee shot being struck.

    Merrick Bremner

A simple selection in that anyone who can win by five at Humewood has to be in a good space. The six-time winner has been putting in a tremendous amount of work to get himself back to his best and that paid off last week. I don’t expect any burnout, instead he’s being tipped to run it close again.

    Neil Schietekat

‘The Kat’ or ‘Schiety’ is back on Sunshine Tour duty after a stint in Asia and in Europe. He won the last time the VOG party came to town ‘down the road’ at Arabella. Again, a tough track that demands everything a pro has to offer.

I’ve seen him up close and after a number of glowing recommendations with his #vogpickme plea, it’s time to select him into my four-man team.

    Garrick Higgo

A rookie winner on tour – he took just five starts to bag his first win – and one for the future or in this case, for right now. Higgo continues to mature and having mastered his art next door at De Zalze, there’s no doubt he knows the course well and will be a contender deep into the final round.

    Oliver Bekker

While Higgo plays his stuff next door, this is Bekker’s home (course). One of three stars on the current scene, he returns to local action after a spell on the Korn Ferry Tour. No doubt he will be keen to impress those following the action, I’m banking on hometown heroics.
