Tiger Woods continues to draw large crowds and the attention of the world but the 14-time Major champion is taking his comeback slow.
‘Keep progressing. Making small changes, small tweaks,’ replied Woods when asked what he needs to go to get his game Masters-ready.
‘I was able to do it the last tournament I played in and hopefully I can make up a few small tweaks this week.’
Woods is due to make his debut at Innisbrook’s Copperhead course this week – as is Rory McIlroy – and only added the event to his schedule after missing the cut at the Genesis Open.
He rebounded sharply at The Honda Classic where he finished in a share of 12th and now looks to test his game and his fitness by playing back to back starting at the Valspar Championship before moving to Bay Hill for the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
‘After playing Honda and really feeling good about it, I wanted to push myself in my practice sessions, which I did, pushed myself in the gym a little bit and I can handle two weeks in a row,’ he said.
Copperhead is a course that fits Woods’ eye, which should mean less erratic shots off the tee this week.
‘It’s a great test,’ he said of the course.
‘Tough to chip the golf ball both ways. With this wind blowing it’s going to put a premium on really hitting it flush. It was a bit tough out there [in his practice round]. Wind is blowing, swirling a little bit inside the trees and it was tough and plus it will be blustery again tomorrow but cooler and so it’s going to be tough.’
Woods joins Henrik Stenson and Jordan Spieth in the first two rounds.
