Tiger Woods believes that many of the PGA TOUR’s problems with slow play start with the first group of the day.
The 2018 Tour Championship winner, who is in the field this week at the first playoff event, was the latest to be questioned about slow play on tour.
‘We’ve been fighting [slow play] for, God, ever since I grew up watching the game,’ the 15-time Major champion said.
‘We can only go as fast as the group in front of us goes.
‘It’s important that the first group goes out and sets the pace, because as you know, the times get slower as you go on, and if the first group goes out slow or has rulings, hits the ball bad, it just logjams everyone behind them.’
Woods, likely to be a playing captain when the Presidents Cup arrives in Melbourne in December, is set to play both playoff events before the tour finale at East Lake.
