Without a point to show for the 2018 Ryder Cup, Tiger Woods was a frustrated figure as he watched the Europeans celebrate winning back the Ryder Cup.
The 2018 Tour Championship winner succumbed to only his second singles defeat at the Ryder Cup with rookie Jon Rahm helping move his side towards victory.
‘Well, it’s disappointing because I went 0-4, and that’s four points to the European Team,’ said Woods on Sunday.
‘And I’m one of the contributing factors to why we lost the cup, and it’s not a lot of fun. It’s frustrating because we came here, I thought we were all playing pretty well, and I just didn’t perform at the level that I had been playing, and just got behind early in the matches and never got back.’
Woods rued a wayward driver especially on the back nine as his driver stuttered just as his putter started talking.
‘Yeah, you know, the tee shot on the 14th was big.
‘I didn’t put it in play, and I just made … just got the match to all-square. Made eagle at 9th and birdied 12th. So it was important to get the ball in play. Didn’t do it. Made back-to-back bogeys and consequently the matched slipped into his favour.’
Rahm joins Constantino Rocca as the only two players to beat Woods, who has now lost 21 Ryder Cup matches.
