Matthew Wolff is the new holder of the world No 135 after his win at the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities, which marks the second-biggest jump in rankings history.
Minnesota was the scene for Sunday’s dramatic final round which had a number of hyped rookies challenge for the title. But, it was Wolff who claimed victory with an eagle on the 72nd hole.
The win helped the reigning NCAA Player of the Year move up 1,524 spots – second only to journeyman Michael Arnaud, who moved up 1,529 places when he won the Web.com Tour’s BMW Charity Pro-Am.
Wolff, who at 20 years, two months and 23 days, is the tour’s second-youngest winner after Jordan Spieth, who won the 2013 John Deere Classic at 19.
Only Ben Crenshaw, Tiger Woods and now Wolff have won the NCAA individual title and a tour event in the same year.
‘It still hasn’t settled in. It’s just a dream come true. It’s life-changing,’ said Wolff, who is in a group of four to have won in just three starts.
