2016 Masters champion Danny Willett has withdrawn from this week’s PLAYERS Championship after testing positive for Covid-19.
Willett becomes the latest PGA Tour casualty to opt out of an event after being infected with the virus. He is, however, the first player since Padraig Harrington at Pebble Beach a few weeks ago that returned a positive test.
The focus will be on TPC Sawgrass from Thursday where the best players from around the world will battle it out at the PLAYERS.
‘Willett will have the PGA Tour’s full support throughout his self-isolation period under the CDC guidelines,’ the PGA Tour communications team said in a short statement.
First alternate Kramer Hickok will replace the Englishman in the field.
