Captain Darren Clarke announced on Tuesday that stalwarts Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer, along with newcomer Thomas Pieters, were the final three players who would complete Team Europe in the Ryder Cup later this month.
‘Lee and Martin were obvious choices,’ said Clarke. ‘I said that I would favour experienced and those two are both stalwarts, so it was an easy decision.’
‘My final choice was much harder, because I had to decide between Russell Knox and Thomas (Pieters). I barely slept last night, but I think the latest performance from Thomas to win the Made in Denmark was incredible,’ added the Northern Irishman.
‘Can’t wait to get on that plane and be with the team that week!’ said Pieters.
