Camilo Villegas stormed to an opening-round lead at the Valero Texas Open with a brilliant eight-under-par 64 at TPC San Antonio on Thursday.
With lots to play for ahead of next week’s all-important Masters, Villegas made a flying start with a number of players making their intentions clear from the start.
The Colombian opened up a two-shot lead by the end of play, South Korea’s Sung Kang and American Cameron Tringale in T2 on six under.

Jordan Spieth was also quick out of the blocks and continued to show improvement with another excellent round of golf.

Spieth, who will return to Augusta National as a former champion next week, went five under for his opening round at the Texas Open.
He will start Friday’s second round in T4, alongside Hideki Matsuyama and Seung-Yul Noh.
South Africa’s Erik van Rooyen and Charl Schwartzel both carded respective rounds of one-under-par 71 where they finished Thursday’s action in T22, while Branden Grace went three over for his first round.
