Jaco van Zyl has chosen to skip The Open Championship at Royal Troon next week due to unforeseen personal circumstances. The world number 65 flew back to South Africa after sharing 62nd place at the Open de France and makes way for Luke Donald to play in the year’s third major.
Van Zyl will be out of action for the PGA Championship as well, but is slated to compete in Rio when golf returns to the Olympics for the first time in 112 years.
Nine South Africans will tee up at Royal Troon, including Branden Grace, Louis Oosthuizen, Ernie Els, and Charl Schwartzel. Haydn Porteous, Zander Lombard and George Coetzee will compete, joined by Brandon Stone and Richard Sterne, who booked their spots through final qualifying at the Open de France.
