Jaco van Zyl carded a two-under-par 69 in round one of the Porsche European Open, which was delayed due to intense rain that waterlogged the course.
The Olympian made just one bogey in his first round at Bad Griesbach in Germany to share 47th place early into the tournament.
Austrian Bernd Wiesberger set the pace with an eight-under-par 63 and was two shots clear of second-placed Renato Paratore, the young Italian sensation.
Daniel Im, Steve Webster, Michael Jonzon, and Lucas Bjerregaard all shared third place with rounds of 66 before the round was halted.
Play was delayed again on Friday morning after heavy fog hampered visibility on the course.
