Vaal de Grace Golf Estate has issued notice that it will no longer operate the golf course with staff having been informed of the legalities of wrapping up operations.
The home owners, described by the directors as ‘key stakeholders’, were notified last week of the permanent shut-down as clubs in South Africa continue to fell the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The directors also thanked the home owners for the positive contribution to the wellbeing of the golf course over the past two and half years.
Previously, the Vaal de Grace Home Owners Association had voted against purchasing a stake in the course.
Vaal de Grace Golf Estate, the first full championship course designed by Nick Price in South Africa, was opened in 2008 and built on an island within the Vaal River.
One Facebook user wrote: ‘It is the truth, we played there on Thursday before lockdown and the personnel confirmed it to is, they are under financial stress. The course was in a very very good condition, but yes very sad.’
