An elderly man passed away at the Margate Country Club on Saturday after reportedly being assaulted, while playing golf, writes ANDRE HUISAMEN.
The 66-year-old man is believed to have been a German tourist, who was on holiday in South Africa and was out playing golf at the country club when the incident happened.
A report released by the town’s police unit indicated that the man might have been murdered.
Captain Nqobile Gwala said that an investigation has begun to fully determine the cause of his death.
‘An Inquest docket is being investigated by Margate SAPS. It is alleged on 7 March 2020 at 15:00, a body of a 66-year-old man was found at a golf course in Margate with no visible injuries. The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated. The post-mortem will determine the cause of death.

“At 14H30 Saturday afternoon, Netcare 911 responded to reports of an assault at a golf course in Margate on the KZN South Coast.
“Reports from the scene indicate that an elderly male, believed to be of German nationality visiting South Africa, had sustained severe head trauma after being assaulted by unknown persons while playing golf.
“Medics assessed the man, who was found unresponsive on the floor. The patient was found to have no signs of life and sadly declared deceased on the scene. Circumstances leading up to the incident will be investigated by the Margate SAPS, who were on scene,’ read the statement from Gwala.
