Chris Swanepoel signed for a flawless six-under-par 66 third round of the Dimension Data Pro-Am in which he made six birdies and no bogey on moving day at Fancourt Hotel and Golf Estate.
‘It’s always nice to go bogey-free. It’s only the second time in my life that I have hit 18 greens,’ he said, ‘I have been hitting it very well these past couple of weeks. I just struggled with the putting, but the last couple of days the putts just went in. Today I left a couple short but the majority of them just went in.’
Any golfer knows that to be able to play a good game on the greens, your first shot off the tee is very important and Swanepoel brought his top game to Outeniqua. ‘I’m hitting myself into play off the tee and I am hitting good iron shots. It’s all about giving yourself a chance to convert the birdies. I have been having quite a couple of good chances today,’ he added.
He also acknowledges that he might have been a lot luckier than the other players who teed off early in the morning when weather conditions made for a tough play today; with wind and showers threatening to make play difficult.
‘The weather was not too bad. Luckily it stopped after a while. I must say, I don’t enjoy the Cape that much; the weather is often poor here but it was nice; it was alright today,’ said Swanepoel.
And now having positioned himself amongst the leaders going into the final round, Swanepoel will want to keep his cool ahead of the final round to be played at Montagu.
‘It’s always nice to be on top of the leaderboard going into the final round. All one must do now is keep calm and convert those birdies,’ he said.
