Brandon Stone reaffirmed that he belongs on the European Tour early at the Shenzhen International this week, where thunderstorms wreaked havoc on the tournament.
Every round of the $2,8-million tournament had some form of suspension in play and there was a Monday finish at Genzon Golf Club, which taxed the players’ mental focus.
The current SA Open champion proved his mettle with rounds of 67, 70, 69, 68 to share second place with Joost Luiten, two shots behind winner Soomin Lee.
In eight starts this year Stone has made six cuts, won once and on Monday added a runner-up result to the tally.
‘I played great from right through from Thursday to Monday. We were very fortunate and gave ourselves a chance…a little bittersweet not to win, but I’m satisfied…14-under-par and in second, can’t really complain,’ he said.
The confidence he takes away from this week will be massive in the buildup to his next tournament, the AfrAsia Mauritius Open, which begins on May 12th.
‘I’m headed home to rest for a couple of weeks and then I’ll play in Mauritius. It will be nice to get home and see some of the SA boys again,’ he said.
