Richard Sterne goes into Saturday at the Made in Denmark tournament tied for third place, but with little to prove.
He’s an eight-time European Tour winner, with off-and-on back problems in his career. In the past Sterne has returned from an operation and dominated, like his 27 under par victory at the 2013 Joburg Open, where he beat Charl Schwartzel by seven strokes.
Before tee-off on Saturday he was four shots off the pace of Welshman Bradley Dredge, who led on 13 under par. Sweden’s Joakim Lagergren was second on 10 under par, followed by Thomas Pieters and Sterne in a share of third place.
Thomas Aiken returned from his PGA Tour debut season and didn’t miss a beat. He shot rounds of 68 and 67 to make the weekend tied for eighth place at Himmerland Golf Resort.
