Jordan Spieth will play the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open next month after amending his schedule in the wake of absence from the season-ending Tour Championship.
The three-time Major champion was set to face a fine and ‘major penalty’ under tour rules after he failed to play the required number of events last year but reports now suggest the player and tour have reached a ‘resolution’.
‘I’m really excited to be playing in the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open,’ said Spieth, who has never played in the US autumn schedule before. ‘The event has been on my radar for a while, as the course has a great reputation on TOUR and I absolutely love the affiliation with the hospital. It’s going to be a really fun week in a great city.’
Bryson DeChambeau, Tony Finau, Rickie Fowler and defending champion Patrick Cantlay also are scheduled to play the Shriners; the event is likely to be Spieth last opportunity to qualify for January’s Tournament of Champions in Hawaii.
