Justin Rose will arrive at The Tour Championship as the best player in the world and one of five that stands the best chance of ending the FedExCup $10-million richer.

Back-to-back second-place finishes helped the 38-year-old move past Dustin Johnson in the latest official world golf rankings, a major item ticked off the Englishman’s list.

‘To get to world No 1 is unbelievable,’ said Rose.

‘It’s something I can say now in my career I’ve been the best player in the world. I’ve been to the top of the game. That’s definitely some consolation. I just wish I could have enjoyed the moment, maybe.’

Rose is no stranger to East Lake where he has a run of five consecutive top 10 finishes but this time, he starts with a very real chance of edging Bryson DeChambeau to the playoff riches.

‘No 2 is an incredible spot to be in,’ added Rose.

‘It’s a week that there’s many scenarios in play.

‘I think when you go in there 15th, 16th, 17th, you know you have to win, and then you have to hope for a ton of other things to happen.’
