While most of the attention is centred on the Race to Dubai champion, a select group of players are battling it out to be crowned the Rookie of the Year and Challenge Tour Graduate of the Year.
One must not forget that it is not only the Race to Dubai No 1 that players will be battling it out for at the DP World Tour Championship, with two other titles to be decided come end of play on Sunday afternoon.
Scotsman Robert MacIntyre, Kurt Kitayama of America, Spaniard Adri Arnaus and Italy’s Guido Migliozzi are fighting to be crowned the Rookie of the Year as they occupy 11th, 12th, 37th and 40th spots, respectively, in the Race to Dubai Rankings presented by Rolex.
Kitayama is the defending champion of both the Mauritius Open and Oman Open.
MacIntyre, who has not won but has two runner-up places and a top 10 at The Open to his name this season, and Frenchman Victor Perez, meanwhile, are the highest-ranked members of the European Challenge Tour Class of 2018, with Perez in 14th place in the season-long rankings.
Former winners of the Rookie of the Year award include Rahm, Brooks Koepka and Martin Kaymer, while Koepka has also won the Graduate of the Year, with South Africa’s Erik van Rooyen the latest winner of the accolade in 2018.
