JC Ritchie and Jaco Prinsloo will take a one shot lead into moving day at the Gauteng Team Championship hosted by Dainfern, writes ANDRE HUISAMEN.
The pair made a solid start on Thursday with an opening round 61 that left them in T2 alongside a team of Jake Roos and Christiaan Basson, with Heinrich Bruiners and Andre Nel the overnight leaders.
But Ritchie and Prinsloo showed great resilience on Friday with a round of 68 on a day when the scores weren’t as low as in the first round.
The duo started on the back foot with a bogey on the first hole but managed to get their round firmly back on track with birdies on the 6th and 7th holes.
A drop shot on the 10th sparked another swing in mentality when they followed that up with four birdies to close out the day on 15 under par.
They will head into Saturday’s third round just ahead of three other teams, who are on T2.
Roos and Basson, Bruiners and Nel and Jaco Ahlers and Vaughn Groenewald are all on 14 under par and very much in contention to take the lead when the third round takes shape.
Bruiners and Nel would’ve been slightly disappointed that they couldn’t kick on after their magnificent opening round 59.
Instead the pair went into the clubhouse with a second round of 71.
