Jovan Rebula romped into the matchplay final of the 123rd Amateur at Royal Aberdeen as he looks to add one of golf’s most prestigious prizes to his collection.
Rebula will play Portmarnock’s Conor Purcell (Ireland) in the final after a convincing 6&4 win over England’s Mitch Waite on Friday afternoon.
Waite was forced to concede two holes in the first three and two more by the time he reached the turn as the South African flexed his muscles.
Rebula, who attends Auburn University, bogeyed 11 but there was no way back into the contest as he made up for a rare mistake with a birdie at the next as he kept his foot the pedal.
A concession on the 14th gave Rebula the win and a much longer than anticipated afternoon as he prepares for what will be one of the biggest matches of his career.
Purcell beat countryman Robin Dawson 3UP.
