Ian Poulter drew on all his Ryder Cup heroics to take down South Africa’s last remaining WGC-Dell Match Play competitor, Louis Oosthuizen.
Poulter birdied four of the first six holes to take control of the outing and never looked back. The Englishman made the turn 2 up after Oosthuizen rallied with a late birdie after sinking his five footer.
That 2 up became 3 at the 12th when Poulter found the green in two and watched as his South African opponent missed from 12 feet for his birdie. With the match slipping away, Oosthuizen found the water on the 13th to drop four behind. Two late birdies gave Oosthuizen a glimmer of hope but, in truth, the match was done and dusted by the time the Open champion made his birdie on the 16th.
The South African bowed out after failing to sink his birdie on the penultimate hole from some 17 feet.
