Haydn Porteous is South Africa’s best-placed golfer in Prague after the conclusion of a rain-interrupted second round at the Albatross Golf Course.

Porteous was one of eight players to break 70 and sits in a share of fourth at the D+D Real Czech Masters. The young South African is five shots behind England’s Chris Hanson.

Porteous was one-over for his round when play was stopped, and while he dropped another shot on the 14th, he added birdies on the fourth, seventh, ninth, 11th and 15th.

Dylan Frittelli started the second round one behind first-round leader Callum Shinkwin, but dropped three shots in his final two holes for a disappointing 74. He is -3 at the halfway mark and is joined by fellow South Africans Zander Lombard (71) and Jaco Ahlers (73), as well as Shinkwin in a share of tenth place.

Erik van Rooyen was level after 36 with a second-round 74, Dean Burmester matching Van Rooyen’s 74 halfway score. Keith Horne shot 75 and is +1 with two rounds to play.

Five of the eight South Africans who started the week will be around on the weekend as they look to make up ground and earn valuable euros. Peter Karmis – a solo leader at one stage on Thursday – missed the cut after a second-round 78; ten shots worse than his opening-round effort. Joining Karmis on the sidelines are Jbe Kruger and Justin Walters.
