Haydn Porteous fired a second round 67 to lead the South African charge in the Made in Denmark at the Himmerland Golf and Spa Resort.
Porteous, who won the Joburg Open in 2016, was flawless on Friday as he produced a bogey-free round to move into a share of 13th place. He leads the way after his stunning recovery during his opening round, where he opened with a 38, but went six shots better on the way in to keep himself in the running.
The 23-year-old opened with a birdie, made another at the fourth, and his final front nine birdie came on the sixth hole to make the turn three-under. His back nine consisted of six consecutive pars before he made a two at the short 16th, closing with two more pars.
Porteous is four-under at the halfway mark and leads Justin Walters (-3), Jake Roos (-3) and Keith Horne (-1) into the weekend.
Four South Africans are on the early flight home, with Zander Lombard, Jaco Ahlers, Jbe Kruger and Richard Sterne not doing enough to secure a place in the weekend field.
England’s Steve Webster is the man to beat on eight-under-par after he managed a 70 on Friday.
