One of South Africa’s best, Lee-Anne Pace, will tee it up at the US Women’s Open aiming to improve on her record at the major where she has struggled over the years.
The 35-year-old has a best finish of tied-43rd, achieved in 2014, but will hope her experience will play a part this time around, coming up against the young generation of LPGA Tour superstars.
Being the oldest women’s major and dubbed the hardest of the lot, the US Women’s Open essentially lends itself to being a tournament where mental toughness is key. Pace is well known for her mental fortitude and ability to keep her cool in challenging conditions. She will look to pick apart the CordeValle Golf Club layout this week while maintaining her recent good form.
After two withdrawals not that long ago, Pace has recorded two top-15 finishes on the trot and will bring confidence into this week. Added to that will be the fact that despite withdrawing from the Women’s PGA Championship, she tied for 14th place at the ANA Inspiration in the first major for the year.
The other South African in the field is Ashleigh Simon, who will be aiming to make the cut at the major for the first time. She has struggled this season and heads to CordeValle on the back of two missed cuts in a row. She did not play in the ANA Inspiration and tied for 50th at the Women’s PGA Championship,so she’ll be looking for improvement.
