South Africa’s best-placed golfer at The Open, Ernie Els, will get his third round under way at 15:20, with leader Jordan Spieth off at 16:55.
Friday’s brutal conditions, where heavy rain accompanied strong winds, played havoc with the afternoon field as only eight players managed to break par all day. One of those, unheralded American Chan Kim will tee off alongside Els, who took advantage of the easier conditions in the morning to limit his losses with a second round 73.
Four South Africans were eliminated from the championship – Louis Oosthuizen, Darren Fichardt, Dylan Frittelli and Jbe Kruger – with Shaun Norris battling his way into the weekend after a back nine 40 almost had him joining his countrymen on the early plane home. The Asian Tour competitor is first off this morning, with a marker at 10:20.
An hour later Brandon Stone will tee off alongside Scot and Sunshine Tour regular David Drysdale. For large portions of the day, Stone was one shot above the cut line at +5, before the late carnage saw him comfortably make the weekend,
Jason Dufner will join Branden Grace on the tee at 12:25, after Grace moved from even to plus four. Next off is Charl Schwartzel at 12:45 as he looks to bounce back from his worst-ever Open Championship round of 78. American Daniel Berger joins him.
Ian Poulter and Brooks Koepka will look to keep the pressure on Spieth, who plays alongside Matt Kuchar, when they tee off in the penultimate pairing at 16:45.
