Louis Oosthuizen hit 11 of 18 greens in regulation during his final round at the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational but could only return a 74 on Sunday.
Oosthuizen finished his day tied for 24th at -3, a drop of 15 places for the round. A two-putt birdie at the 2nd was followed by a bogey on the next as the top-ranked South African struggled to make an impact on the stellar leaderboard at Firestone.
Another one-putt bogey followed on the 8th before doubling the 9th to continue his Sunday descent. A 15-footer on the 10th helped Oosthuizen back to +2 for the day but there was little to cheer for as he failed to find the par-three 12th green which resulted in a two-putt bogey.
Oosthuizen failed to birdie the 16th despite being left with just 84 yards for his third before a closing bogey saw him sign for a 74.
The round of the day belonged to countryman Charl Schwartzel who, playing alongside Branden Grace at the bottom of the draw, produced a superb 63. That effort was one better than Thorbjorn Olesen and Dustin Johnson, who attempted to put some pressure on eventual winner Justin Thomas.
Schwartzel’s statistics tell a story, with the former Masters winner hitting just half of the 14 fairways and two-thirds of the greens in regulation but his putter was electric with no misses within 10 feet. The putter helped him finish the day tied for 31st at even par and the second best South African with Brandon Stone (T53), Grace (T63) and Jaco Ahlers (71st) all struggling this week.
