Louis Oosthuizen carded a flawless 64 at Lake Karrinyup Country Club on Friday for sole third heading into the weekend of the Perth International.
‘It was good to keep the mistakes off the card, and I’m one behind going into the weekend, which is always a good position,’ he said.
The windy conditions did little to offset the world number 21’s charge as he made 10 pars and eight birdies to lie one shot behind co-leaders Peter Uihlein and Brett Rumford.
‘Once you get it above the trees it picks up the wind quite a bit,’ said Oosthuizen. ‘I think it helped on a few holes to get closer to the pins when we were into the breeze and i took advantage.’
The 33-year-old started well, but it was his run of four consecutive birdies from the 12th to 15th that put him in contention at the halfway mark in Perth.
‘I birdied three of the first four and then seven pars that could have been a few more, but the one on 12 got me in the right direction. It was nice to get on a run there for a few holes,’ he smiled.
The 2010 Open Champion shot 70 on day one and, after his Friday heroics, reached the 36-hole mark on 10-under-par.
’It does’t feel any different to how I played yesterday, but today I made a few more putts. It’s a good spot to go into the weekend,’ he said.
