It wasn’t to be for the South African team of Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel as they were beaten in a playoff at the Zurich Classic this past Sunday by Australians Marc Leishman and Cameron Smith.
The South African duo took a one-shot lead into the final round at TPC Louisiana and made a pretty good start with two birdies on the front nine.
Two bogeys after the turn, however, applied some late pressure on their progress, with Oosthuizen and Schwartzel eventually finishing on 20 under par and tied with the two Australians.

Leishman and Smith also battled hard throughout their final round and managed to gain two strokes with a round of 70 to sign off with.
The two groups of players returned to the par-five 18th hole for the first playoff decider but it wasn’t to be for the South Africans, who failed to capitalise on the opportunity.
In the end, a par was enough for Leishman and Smith to seal the win after Oosthuizen and Schwartzel bombed out on the hole.
Oosthuizen’s tee shot on the 18th found the water, which immediately gave the Australians a sniff as Schwartzel reloaded on the tee. A double-bogey was as good as it got for the pair, who had to settle for second place.
