Louis Oosthuizen continued his fine run of form with an opening round of 66 at the Travelers Championship on Thursday, writes JOHN GOLIATH.

The sweet-swinging South African followed up his strong performance at the US Open by carding eight birdies en route to a 4-under par round. However, he mixed in two bogeys and a horrible double to leave him two shots adrift of the leaders.

Oosthuizen, who finished T7 at Pebble Beach last weekend, started with an opening birdie at the 10th hole, before giving a shot back at the 12th. But he made the turn in 4-under after birdies on four of the last six holes of his front nine.

Oosthuizen continued his good run with a birdie at the second, but disaster struck on the third hole when he made a double. The Mossel Bay-born star drove into the penalty area and only got onto the green after five shots. He then made two more birdies at No 5 and No 7 to get back to 5-under for his round, but another bogey at No 8 would see him finish with a 66.

Meanwhile, fellow South African Dylan Frittelli shot an even-par round of 70 after recording four bogeys on the card.

Frittelli, who has missed the cut five times in 12 PGA Tour events this year, started off with three dropped shots in his first five holes, before making birdies on No 15 and No 18 to make the turn at 1-over par.

He got back to even with a birdie at the second hole, but dropped another shot at the third after driving his ball in the bunker. However, he finished with a four at the par-5 5th to get back to even par ahead of Friday’s second round.
