South Africa’s top-ranked player, Louis Oosthuizen, heads into the weekend six shots behind the leaders at The Open, writes WADE PRETORIUS.

Not great, not bad. That’s one way of summing up Oosthuizen’s Open to date.
After an opening 72 and perhaps still feeling the effects of last week’s neck strain, there might’ve been more than a few observers leaning towards Oosthuizen following Branden Grace and Charl Schwartzel into the recreational golf circles this weekend.

A bogey at the 2nd was another indication that it might be a tale of woe this week in Scotland. Oosthuizen, however, proved every bit the scrapper as he pulled that shot back with a birdie at the 5th to head out in level par. A second birdie of the championship at the 11th was undone by a dropped shot at the next before birdies at the 14th and 16th more than matched his dropped shot at the 15th.
It wasn’t a perfect round but he’s by no means out of the equation and could yet benefit from an earlier-than-anticipated start in round three.
Betting against Oosthuizen, who is joined at level par through 36 holes by countryman Shaun Norris, to rise up the leaderboard tomorrow would be foolish.
