Shaun Norris shot a four-under-par 68 at Black Mountain Golf Club on Friday to share fourth place heading into the weekend of the True Thailand Classic.
‘I hit the ball nicely again and gave myself a couple of chances. I’m pleased with the round and looking forward to the weekend,’ he said.
The 33-year-old is already a winner on the Asian Tour this year and on Friday he was once again in contention of making the 36-hole mark on nine-under-par.
‘I’m a lot more comfortable out here knowing that I’ve secured my card for the rest of the season. It takes a lot of pressure off, but it also gave me the confidence to try for another good finish or two, maybe win another one,’ he said.
Norris had an early start in the second round and it gave him a reprieve from the hot and humid conditions of Thailand.
‘I had such a deep sleep that the alarm gave me a fright, but I came out this morning and the weather was perfect. After a while the heat kicked in, but there was a little breeze and it helped to keep us cool,’ he said.
He began the day with a birdie on the 10th and closed out his first loop in three-under-par. A drop at the fifth was the only blemish on his card and the Pretoria local made a further two gains before signing for 68.
The big-hitting South African is house-hunting at the moment, so he had extra drive to perform well at this week’s $1,75-million tournament.
‘I’m getting married next year and I need to buy a house, so I need to do my best. We’re looking at trying to find a nice place for the new year, so we’ll have to keep riding this wave of good form,’ he said.
