Alex Noren beat Tyrrell Hatton by one shot to claim the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open title, after finishing at 14-under-par on Sunday.
‘This is by far the biggest win, the amount of players that are here and on a course like this in Scotland, it’s only what I dreamt of growing up,’ said Noren.
The Swede started his final round with a birdie on the second before a bogey came at the eighth. Making the turn at even-par for his round, the 33-year-old would not drop a shot on his way home.
He sunk birdies at the 12th and 15th and took a two shot lead down the 18th. Hatton only made birdie, and a par was good enough to give Noren a round of 70 and his fifth European Tour title.
‘I’m so happy it’s over because it was a tough, tough leaderboard,’ said the new champ. ‘A lot of guys at 11, 12, 13 under and it was just not a cruising win at all. Thinking about it this morning, how much it would mean, then it feels like miles away and now when it happens, it just feels unbelievable’
From a South African perspective, Justin Walters faded to a final round 75 to end in a tie for 21st place at six-under-par. Branden Grace shot a final round 71 to end in a tie for 29th place at five-under-par. The top South African in the field was Richard Sterne who fired a final round 69 to end at seven-under-par for the tournament and in a share of 13th place.
