The second and penultimate day of the MCB Tour Championship didn’t disappoint. With no sign of rain, tee times returned to normal, and the golf was as scintillating as the weather. Phillip Price, leader after day one, had an up and down day with five bogeys and six birdies leaving him at nine under for the tournament. Colin Montgomerie, in search of his second consecutive win at the season-ending tournament, had another blemish-free round which included five birdies also leaving him at nine under for the tournament. The trio, at nine under, was completed by South Africa’s David Frost. After nine holes he was two under and proceeded to eagle the par four 10th catapulting him to four under for the day. Unfortunately he did not continue in that vein as a bogey nullified his final hole birdie.
It was two former Ryder Cup players in the form of Barry Lane and Paul Broadhurst who ended atop the leader board at the close of play. Lane followed up his five under from day one with another leaving him at 10 under for the tournament. His countryman, and imminent winner of the John Jacobs trophy, had the round of the day. After starting the day at three under par he stormed to the top of the leader board with a bogey-free seven under par round. With five players all within one shot the final round of MCB Tour Championship, hosted by Constance Belle Mare Plage promises to be an exciting end to the season.
