World No 1 Rory McIlroy has made it clear that he isn’t shy to give his full and honest opinion regarding his golf.
Speaking on the Sky Sports watch-along of his memorable victory at last year’s PLAYERS Championship, the Northern Irishman explained he puts his emotions out in the open whenever he faces the media or is on social media.

‘I need to tell it to somebody and [the media] are usually the first ones I get to tell it to. If someone has taken the time to come up with a thoughtful question, then I want to at least give them the respect of coming up with a thoughtful answer. I feel like I’ve always had a great relationship with the media,’ McIlroy said.
He further emphasised that he finds it somewhat therapeutic to have a discussion with the media in interviews and sees it as his obligation to provide full and clear answers to the questions presented to him.
‘That’s just my personality. I get it from my father and he is very much that way. But at the same time I want to let you guys in, I want to be interesting and I want to let you know my thoughts.
‘It’s my nature, it’s the way I’ve always been and hopefully the way I’ve always will be,’ he said.
