Six-time Masters champion Jack Nicklaus believes it is unlikely that the famous competition will find a spot for rescheduling after being postponed initially.
Speaking on ESPN‘s SportCenter over the weekend, Nicklaus said Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley had consulted him about the way forward and whether he thinks it is the correct decision to have postponed the event.
‘I talked to Fred and he had said that they debated it a long time and they felt it was the right thing to do, and I agree with him. I think it was the right thing to do,’ said the 18-time Major winner.

Despite the possibility of staging the event later in the year, Nicklaus isn’t very optimistic that it would indeed take place at all this year, given the issues that will arise with creating a different date for the event and with other events also following the same route.
‘In all practicality, they’re postponing but I can’t see any way that they would play it at a later date. I think it’s just, how in the world could they work it into the schedule? It wouldn’t be fair to any other tournament that’s later. I think we’re probably going to miss the Masters this year, that’s just my opinion.’
Having announced the postponement of the Masters last week, Ridley mentioned that he is optimistic that the organisers will find it possible to reschedule.
‘Unfortunately, the ever-increasing risks associated with the widespread coronavirus have led us to a decision that undoubtedly will be disappointing to many, although I am confident is appropriate under these unique circumstances,’ said Ridley.
