Louis Oosthuizen has recalled the hilarious time him and Charl Schwartzel decided to play a friendly battle during a practise match ahead of the 2011 US Open.
Speaking in a rather social interview on presenter Robbie Kruse’s ‘Out of Bounce’ show, Oosthuizen told the funny story of when he got the best out of Schwartzel, thanks to a game called ‘Recall Mulligan.’
The rules were simple – whenever someone hit a good shot the other player could ‘recall’, meaning the player should try and repeat that shot to add a little bit of excitement to the match.

Both players would start with a mulligan and if you lose the hole you get another mulligan – all to basically add to the preparation of the upcoming Major.
‘We got on the 14th hole and Charl hit this bunker shot that was about 210 meters out and he had this stance in the bunker where he had to cut about 40 yards to the right and I was thinking there’s no way he’s getting within 30 yards of the green and next thing he hits it within 30 feet of the pin – unbelievable shot,’ said Oosthuizen.
To make things interesting Oosthuizen obliged to the funny rules of the game and challenged Schwartzel to replicate the shot.
‘I walked to him and said, ‘Just show me again, I am going to use my recall.’ There were a few words from him coming out towards me and I just laughed – he hit the next shot within 20 feet, even closer.’
