    Kruyswijk is into the finals

Jacques Kruyswijk topped the leaderboard of the European Tour’s Second Stage Qualifying School at Las Colinas Golf and Country Club in Alicante in Spain to give himself a shot at earning his playing privileges in Europe next year.

He moves to the Final Stage which gets underway next week on 11 November at Lumine Golf Club in Tarragona, Spain. He carded a fourth-round 67 to finish on -17 for the week after opening with a brilliant 10-under par 61.

Kruyswijk took his maiden Sunshine Tour title last November with victory in the Lion of Africa Cape Town Open, and has a best finish of third in the 2017-18 local season with his performance in the Vodacom Origins of Golf event at Highland Gate in July. He also had brushes with the top 10 in the Sun City Challenge in August and the Vodacom Origins of Golf event at Sishen in October.

He tried his hand at some events on the Challenge Tour in an attempt to ready himself for foreign conditions, and his best performance came right at the beginning of the season when he finished fourth in the Barclays Kenya Open in March.

Not so fortunate at other venues were Christiaan Basson, who missed going through by two strokes, and Jake Roos and Ruan de Smidt who were somewhat further off the pace.

There is still one round to play at Panoramica Golf and Sport Resort in Castellon after a day lost to rain. Bryce Easton and Jaco Ahlers are both favourably placed to get one of the 21 spots in Final Stage which are on offer there.

Other players with Sunshine Tour connections who made it through to Final Stage were Zimbabwe’s Scott Vincent and England’s Toby Tree.
