Kruger came up short in Austria

Jbe Kruger was upbeat, despite a bogey on the 18th hole which cost him a chance to play off against Dylan Frittelli at the Lyoness Open in Austria.

The 30-year-old had a share of the lead down the stretch on Sunday, but found the sand from the tee on the par 3 18th. A poor bunker shot left him with plenty to do to make par and stay at -12. He hit a good putt, but it stayed out to see him make bogey and allow Frittelli the chance to close with two pars for the win.

‘It is sweet and sour,’ said Kruger after coming agonisingly close to a playoff on Sunday.

‘I’ll take the good with the bad. It is disappointing in a way to finish like that, but it’s part of the game. I have been putting well all week. At the moment it feels like if I have the line I’m not missing, so I am comfortable even under pressure.’

Kruger rocketed into contention after holing out for eagle on the 12th.

‘When it came off, I said “get in the hole”, but I couldn’t see because there is a blind spot there, so it was literally the perfect shot, but for it to go in you need a lot of luck and that is what I had.’

The result moved Kruger up 45 places to 84th in the Race to Dubai.
