Russell Knox made a 12-footer for par at the 18th of TPC River Highlands on Sunday to win the Travelers Championship by one stroke.
‘I felt like the Incredible Hulk when it went in,’ he said. ‘I could have ripped my shirt off.’
‘Everybody dreams of making a putt on the last hole to win a tournament,’ he added. ‘I just kept telling myself, this is your chance to make a putt to have a great celebration and hear the roars. I’m glad it went in.’
The Scotsman shot 68 on Sunday to finish the tournament at 14-under-par, one stroke clear of local favourite Jerry Kelly.
Jim Furyk shot the first 58 in PGA Tour history to finish three shots back.
‘In this game you catch a little tip here, a little tip there, and you make a few good swings, and that momentum can switch pretty quickly. It doesn’t ever feel like it, but when it happens, it’s a lot of fun,’ said the 46-year-old.
Tyrone van Aswegen joined Furyk in a share of fifth place on 11-under-par, along with Robert Garrigus and Daniel Berger.
Compleat Golfer’s playing editor Louis Oosthuizen shot 67, 66 at the weekend to finish in a share of 17th place on eight-under-par. Stalwarts Ernie Els and Retief Goosen were both tied for 47th place on four-under-par, while Rory Sabbatini shared 56th place a further stroke back.
