Justin Thomas and Charl Schwartzel will both sit out this week’s PGA Championship at Bethpage Black due to persistent injuries.
Tee times for the PGA Championship
Thomas, a former FedExCup champion and the 2017 PGA Championship winner, confirmed the news on Monday afternoon.
‘Unfortunately, I will be withdrawing from the 101st PGA Championship at Bethpage Black this week, as my wrist is not yet fully healed. Obviously, as a past Champion, this tournament is extra-special to me,’ Thomas wrote.
‘It consistently has the strongest field in golf and I’m disappointed to not be among those competing this year, but I’m optimistic about a return in the near future.’
The 26-year-old is a nine-time PGA TOUR winner, who sits 12th in the FedExCup despite not yet winning this season.
He last played at the Masters, where he finished T12, and will be replaced by Kelly Kraft.
Schwartzel has also withdrawn due to a wrist injury, with Bronson Burgoon standing in.
