Kingswood Golf Estate’s Carlo Heunis claimed his first tournament title in the A Division of the Glacier Junior Series when he won in difficult conditions at Fancourt this weekend.
Heunis battled through the cold and occasional rain to sign for a level-par 72 on The Montagu course, beating local Fancourt golfer Bradley de Beer by two strokes.
‘I’ve been playing golf for six years and this is my first win in the A Division,’ said the 17-year-old Heunis, who is a student at Outeniqua High School.
Heunis is coached by the celebrated Val Holland, and says her advice helped him negotiate the tough conditions.
‘She just told me to play my own game and take an extra club in the tough conditions, if I needed it.’
Heunis’s victory earns him a place in October’s National Final of the Glacier Junior Series, which will be played at San Lameer Golf Estate.
