Justin Harding will no doubt head to Augusta National a little earlier after missing the halfway mark at the Valero Texas Open.

One of three South Africans in the field, the prolific Sunshine and Asian Tour star missed his second cut of the year (Oman Open) after a second round 75 added to his 74 effort on Thursday.

Harding started well with a birdie from 23 feet at the third. One-under became two when he scrambled for a birdie at the fifth; this time rolling a putt from 8 feet.

The Qatar Masters winner salvaged a bogey at the ninth after taking four shots to find the green.

Harding was back to level for the day after failing to find the 10th green in regulation. Another bogey followed at the 11th after his third consecutive one-putt bogey.

Harding arrested the slide after a big down and a 80-yard pitch to four feet on the 12th.

The South African’s day didn’t get better as he made another bogey on the par-3 13th after he failed to find the green in regulation. A par at the easiest hole – the par-5 14th – set off a run of four in a row before a double bogey closed out his debut at the TPC San Antonio course.

Ernie Els enjoyed a good day out as he signed for a 69 that moved him up 24 places to share 28th alongside the likes of Haotong Li and Matt Kuchar.

The Big Easy is eight shots behind Si-Woo Kim, who leads by four.

Dylan Frittelli, like Els not qualified for The Masters, finished birdie, eagle to make the cut on the number.
