A bogey-free 64 on moving day has put Justin Harding in line for a lucrative payday at the non-cut WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational.
Rounds of 72 and 70 left the South African some way off the pace but Harding will start Sunday knowing there is plenty to play for.
His crisp display in round three saw him rise 29 places to T18 and with the strength of the field being what it is, he will know that the eight-shot gap to Rory McIlroy is almost impossible to close. That leaves Harding to play freely with another low round likely to see him bank a top 10 in Memphis.
Harding will need to replicate Saturday’s recipe which saw him miss just one green in regulation and no putts within 10 feet at TPC Southwind.
Birdies at 3, 4 and 6 got him going and he never put his foot off the gas with the latter of the two seeing his putting numbers soar with a combined 53 feet worth of putts drained.
He turned with a string of pars before another 20+ foot dropped at the 10th. He gained more strokes with birdies at 12 and 15 as he breezed into the clubhouse satisfied with a good day’s work.
Louis Oosthuizen is two back of his countryman after a 66 that saw him go out in just 30 strokes.
