Branden Grace shot a Saturday 69 at Harbour Town Golf Links to rise into a share of fifth place and moved within three strokes of 54-hole leader Luke Donald.
The 27-year-old South African holed a chip from off the green at the 18th to close out the round in style and totaled four-under-par for the tournament.
He was bogey-free on the stretch and one of nine players to break 70 on Saturday, which contributed to his rise from 16th to fifth. He’s making all the right moves in his rookie season on the PGA Tour.
Donald, meanwhile, is making his comeback. A former world number one who led the PGA Tour in putting for five years, the Englishman dipped in form and missed The Masters last week.
‘I don’t feel like I’m old enough to sit at home and watch the majors on television,’ he said.
He came into the week with a point to prove, and so far he’s proved it. Redemption is one round away.
‘I’m sure it will be challenging tomorrow and I’ll probably be nervous. I haven’t been in this position as much as I would have liked the last couple of years. But certainly have been in this position many times, and I’ll draw from that,’ he said.
